FAQs for Summer Programs

How does Shoals Forest School meet the needs of diverse learners?

Shoals Forest School works to meet learners where they are when they enter the session. We recognize that all learners will arrive at different levels. Our entire programming is based upon meeting the needs of each individual learner.

Have your staff members had a background check?

Currently, the staff members only consist of Jennifer and Chris Morgan. Both individuals work for public schools in the area and have undergone background checks. We will require background checks for any other employees of our program.

What do you do in a case of severe weather?

In the case of predicted severe weather, Shoals Forest School will change locations or reschedule the day. If severe weather moves in while we are with the children, we will follow backcountry principles for protection.

What is your student to teacher ratio?

Our teacher to student ratio is 2:10 in our 3-6 year old program and 2:14 in our 7-10 year old program.

Is Shoals Forest School a good fit for my child?

Forest school is a great fit for most children. If your child is toilet trained and can follow directions (developmentally), forest school could be a perfect fit for your child. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.

Where will my child go to the bathroom?

All children must be toilet trained to attend our program. Due to the nature of being an outdoor based program, we will encourage children to properly use the restroom outdoors. We will also have a composting or travel toilet available for kids who may need more.
